Vumbura Plains moments
Move seamlessly between land and water experiences, navigating floodplains studded with ilala palms and small islands. Watch lions in pursuit of prey or African wild dogs, or a leopard, on the hunt. Catch glimpses of stately sable or, thrillingly, a shy sitatunga – almost invisible in its aquatic habitat among the papyrus.

 

LOCATION

Vumbura Plains lies in the far north of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest inland delta on Earth. Set on raised decks in the midst of annually inundated grassland, the camp is a marvel of engineering design. Nestled under tree canopies, the indoor and outdoor spaces weave in and out of nature, allowing for intimate wildlife encounters.

ACCOMODATION

Wilderness Vumbura Plains blends easily into its natural surroundings. Elegantly appointed suites, elevated on wooden decking, are set along the water’s edge, each with a private viewing deck, plunge pool, sun loungers and a covered sala for siestas and private dining. Follow the walkway to the open lounge and dining room to enjoy the delectable cuisine a major highlight of your stay.

CUISINE

In line with our light footprint philosophy, our menu at Vumbura Plains celebrates delicious local and seasonal ingredients, the region's traditions, and our partnership with local farmers and suppliers. Signature dishes use the traditional powdered root of the Okavango waterlily, ‘tswii’. Local ‘phapata’ bread cooked over the morning camp fire is an early morning safari staple.

Vumbura Plains seems to float, an artful balance of wood, glass, and canvas. The design moves seamlessly from the outside in, reflecting the Delta’s rich hues, local landscape and culture. The most spacious of our Delta camps, Vumbura Plains is a model of impactful tourism, celebrating our proud partnership with the Okavango Community Trust and its residents from five local villages.

Solo Traveler benefits - Safari accommodations typically factor in costs for two guests sharing a room or tent, while solo travellers often end up paying more. But when you travel with Wilderness there’s no extra fees for a single traveller, be that a solo friend travelling with a couple, an older child travelling with parents, or the adventurous individual embarking on a solo safari.
